Life is full of waiting. Waiting for answers, for news, for dreams to unfold. Some waiting is short and sweet – the anticipation of a trip, the countdown to a celebration. But other waiting feels endless, stretching into days and months that blur together.
Infertility has been my deepest in-between. A season marked not by clear beginnings or endings, but by uncertainty. Not quite here, not quite there.
Just…waiting.
🌿 The Ache of the In-Between
The hardest part of the in-between is not knowing. Not knowing when, or how, or if the longing will be fulfilled. It’s living with questions that don’t have answers, carrying hope and fear in the same breath.
It can feel like life is on pause while the rest of the world moves forward. Friends announce pregnancies, families grow, milestones are reached – and I’m here, still waiting.
☕ What the In-Between Has Taught Me
As painful as it is, the in-between has been a teacher. It has shown me that:
- I can hold more than one emotion at once. Grief and hope, gratitude and longing, joy and sadness – they all coexist.
- Life isn’t only about milestones. There is meaning in the ordinary days, in the coffee poured each morning, in the small rituals that carry me through.
- Waiting is not wasted. Even when I can’t see it, I believe something is being formed in me during this season.
🌸 Finding Beauty Here
Living in the in-between has forced me to notice what I might otherwise miss. The light streaming through the window. The way laughter breaks tension. The steady rhythm of walks through my neighborhood.
These small things don’t erase the ache, but they soften it. They remind me that even here – in the uncertainty – life is still unfolding.
🌙 Gentle Practices for the In-Between
For anyone walking a season of waiting, here are practices that have grounded me:
- Journaling honestly about what I feel each day.
- Creating small rituals (morning coffee, evening candle, daily walks).
- Allowing space for grief and hope to sit side by side.
- Reminding myself that life is happing now, not just later.
✨ Closing Reflection
The in-between is not easy. It’s tender, heavy, and often lonely. But it’s also where resilience grows. Where we learn to live with open hands. Where we discover that life is not only about what we’re waiting for, but also about what we notice along the way.
If you’re here too, I hope you know this: you are not stuck. You are not forgotten. Even in the in-between, your story matters.
“We must be willing to let go of the life we planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.” -Joseph Campbell
